Winning Team: Stuart McLeod (Managing Director) and Sally Hayles (Business Development Director) of qedi.
qedi which specialises in oil and gas completion and commissioning services won the BP Award for Outstanding International Achievement in the Oil and Gas Industry. The company currently employs 35 people and has boosted its turnover from £10m to more than £60m in the last six years.
The Deloitte International Award for People Development went to Optima Solutions. The firm provides oil rig cooling services across the world and is a global market leader in heat mitigation solutions for offshore installations, operating in over 25 different countries.
Attended by 700 senior leaders from business and civic Scotland, the event welcomed former Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan as keynote speaker.
Ian Steele, senior partner for Deloitte in Scotland, which sponsored Optima Solution’s award, said:
“A constant feature of consistently successful businesses is their commitment to recruiting, retaining, training and developing their staff. All too easy to dilute this focus when times are tough, or indeed when times are very good, it’s those companies that keep people as their top priority that are the winners in the long term.
“The Deloitte International Award for Innovation in People Development recognises those companies which have nurtured growth from within and recognised the crucial part which their staff has played in their long term success”.
BP sponsored qedi’s award for Outstanding International Achievement in the Oil and Gas Industry. Tim Smith, Vice President, Communications & External Affairs for BP
“BP is a major investor in the North Sea and in Scotland generally. However, we also rely on the expertise of Scottish companies in a number of our international businesses. We are therefore delighted to be sponsoring an award which recognises the considerable success of Scottish businesses overseas. It’s vital for the future of Scotland’s economy that these companies continue to grow their market share internationally and that SCDI helps where it can”.
The event was attended by Rt Hon Alex Salmond MSP, First Minister of Scotland. Mr Salmond said:
“Scotland is continuing to build on our heritage of invention and innovation by developing key industries to create a cleaner, wealthier and safer society for all. These awards recognise that work and to have such an internationally respected leader such as Kofi Annan present to share his insights on pressing global issues is testament to the value put on Scottish research and technology in the wider world.”
SCDI chief executive Dr Lesley Sawers said:
“SCDI is ambitious for Scotland and we want to double the value of our exports in the next decade. In the current economic climate we must look outwards, build on our world-renowned Scottish brand, demonstrate leadership and support more companies to operate in international markets. Once again SCDI has recognised the excellence and leadership of those Scottish organisations who contribute to Scotland achieving its Global Ambitions”.
